Tikkun Olam Tibetan Buddhist Style

I walked down to the stupa here at the retreat center today. I was amazed to read how this structure was built to help balance the earth and create peace. All sorts of blessings were said. Mantras were recited. Things were buried in the earth. I meditated there for a while. I think of this as Tibetan-style tikkun olam, healing the earth.

I’m going to go back to the shrine one more time today for chanting and prayers. I just sit and meditate. Sometimes I even recite the sh’ma. Yesterday’s chants included a special one for removing obstacles.

Yesterday they blew long horns that reminded me the shofar. The lama asked if I wanted to blow one. He said they brought in blessings. I declined.

Every time I go to the chanting and prayer service the lama tells me I can sit in a chair if I have a bad knee…he’s psychic. I had knee surgery in September.

The lama created special jars you can purchase and put in your house or bury that supposedly bring peace and prosperity to your home and to the Earth as well. More tikkun olam…I like this religion.
