How to Create Your Desires by Starting with the End in Mind

You want to create your desires but aren’t sure where to begin. Start with the end in mind.

Too many people begin creating what matters to them with a focus on their current circumstances. You need clarity on your circumstances, but having that doesn’t necessarily help you change them or move toward your goals.

To change them, work backward from the desired result. Take action that moves you toward achieving that goal despite your circumstances.

Focusing on Current Circumstances Keeps You Stuck

A focus on what you have or experience now keeps you stuck. For example, start your own business. Looking at your current circumstances, you believe you can only take action toward that goal if you quit your current job. Yet, right now, you need the income from that job.

Therefore, you feel stuck. You want to be an entrepreneur but believe you can’t, given your current circumstances. That leaves you waiting for circumstances to change before you can take action to achieve your end result.

Focus on the End Result to Move Forward

Using the same example, imagine your end result—having a business and being an entrepreneur. You have clarity on your desired circumstances and can focus on achieving your goal.

Your current circumstances haven’t changed, but your focus has. Your attention is on the future, not the present, and what you can do now to move closer to your goal—despite your circumstances.

Be the Person Who has Achieved the End Result

You also need to change how you perceive yourself. Instead of seeing yourself as someone whose circumstances prevent them from pursuing their goals, see yourself as someone moving toward your goal of entrepreneurship.

Even better, see yourself as someone who is already an entrepreneur and successful businessperson (or whatever your chosen end result). By being your future self now, you quickly develop the habits and mindsets of that person. That allows you to find ways to take action to get your desired end result.

When you see yourself as already having achieved your goal, you work from the end result. Choose to be a person who has the end result you seek. In other words, choose a new identity. Do that, and you will act like such a person.

Identity and action always align. Decide who you want to be. Will you choose to be a victim of your circumstances and unable to move toward your goal until those circumstances change? Or will you choose to be someone who believes having that desired end result is inevitable and, therefore, you behave like someone who already has achieved that goal?

I’m sure you realize that the first choice will not move you very fast or far…if it moves you forward at all. The second choice is the ticket to receiving the end result you want.

Action Leads to Desired Results

Begin taking action toward creating your end result and being someone who knows it will be yours sooner rather than later. That’s when the magic begins to happen. Your actions call spiritual forces together to support your efforts.

You’ve probably heard the saying that the Universe (God, Source, Creator, Divine Mind) conspires on your behalf. Indeed, that happens when you act toward your desired end result. A power greater than you begin to support your efforts to change your circumstances and get different results—the ones you desire.

A Spiritual GPS Helps You Arrive at Your End Result

To understand this concept of the Universe conspiring on your behalf, imagine you want to travel by car from one location to another, like from New York City to Chicago, Houston to Los Angeles, or Paris to Prague. The end result of your trip is reaching your destination. Still, you begin planning with that destination—end result—in mind.

First, you must know the destination to map out your trip. Like like using any GPS system, including Google Maps or iMaps, you must know where you want to go. Then, you can plug that destination into the app.

Next, the app plots your path from where you are to where you want to go. Metaphorically, the app figuring out the steps needed to reach your destination is the Universe or God providing the steps you need to take to get to your end result.

Put your end result into the Universal GPS. It will show you how to reach that destination.

Course Correct as Necessary (with Spiritual Guidance)

That doesn’t mean you sit around waiting for the Universe to tell you what turn to take next. Once you’ve plugged in the information and gotten your map, you have to take action.

Let’s use the earlier example to illustrate this point. You set out on your journey to entrepreneurship. You put the destination—a successful business of your own (or some other goal)—into the GPS. It gives you the map to get there.

Next, you must turn on the car, put your foot on the gas, and begin driving. You have to take action. The essential travel plan and arrival time will change based on how fast you drive and in what direction. If you take a different highway than recommended or accidentally turn right instead of left, the GPS program alters directions to ensure you reach your destination.

These changes in the initial plan represent the Universe course correcting as necessary. You make one decision, and the Universe sends you opportunities and signs or suggests you make a U-turn.

It’s up to you to pay attention and follow the guidance you receive. If you don’t, it doesn’t mean you won’t get your desired end results. You’ll get a new message—new directions.

Use the End Result as Your True North

You don’t need to worry about making a mistake. The Universe will send you a new set of directions if you get off course. Follow them…or not. You’ll always get a new map.

And use your end result as your true north. True north is the direction that points directly towards the geographic North Pole, a fixed point on the Earth’s globe. See your end result as a fixed point in your future. Always move in that direction.

If you decide you are lost and to give up, you will remain wherever you have found yourself. These new circumstances won’t change unless you take new action. Take a step in the direction of your true north. Move toward your end result, and you’ll begin to see the path forward again.

As long as you remain focused on your current circumstances—where you are now—your true north will remain obscured from view. You won’t see how to move in the direction of your end result.

Start with your end result in mind. Be someone who can achieve that goal, and you will take action that consistently moves you toward that goal.
