Monday Inspiration: Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Inspirational tools

Do you feel so comfortable in your comfort zone that you can’t imagine moving outside it?

Are you scared to step outside of that box in which you live?

Well today I want to encourage you to do just that. I want you to break out of your comfort zone and stretch yourself past yorucurrent boundaries.

Why? Because it’s the only way you can grow!

I want you to push yourself to become a fish who can exist out of water or a plant that stretches and grows toward to sun.

The only way to stretch and grow is to do something new, different or scary.

Pick Your “Stretch Goal”

The first way that you can get out of your comfort zone is to come up with a “stretch goal.”

This goal should  be one that takes effort to accomplish.

For example, you could want to get a book published. You might want a new job or to go to grad school. Maybe you want to overcome being shy and start meeting new people. Any of these would make great “stretch goals.”

And guess what these goals are designed to do? Stretch you!

As you strive for your goal, you grow beyond your normal experience or expertise.

You start to spend more time outsize of your comfort zone, and you’ll develop new skills and talents.

Do Something New

The second way to get out of your comfort zone is to try something new or different.

Go somewhere new, or do something different. If you typically spend all day watching TV, try going outside and interacting with people or exercising. Enroll in a college course or take a trip to Europe. Learn a new skill (maybe one related to your “stretch goal”).

What matters is that you do something you haven’t done previously or don’t normally do…something a bit uncomfortable.

Do something scary

This last tip will push you even farther. Do something that’s a little scary for you, something that frightens you just a bit.

Of course, I don’t want you to do anything that puts you in danger, but try to live with a bit of safe risk!

Go skydiving or bungee jumping. Do a fire walk! Talk to a stranger at a networking event. Join Toastmasters and give a speech.

Doing something scary gives you strength and courage in other areas of your life as well.

As you step outside your comfort zone, you will discover the courage you already have, too.

You have the ability to do all three of these things. You have the power to take action and experience things outside of your comfort zone.

You may like staying in your comfort zone—most of us do. After all, you’re used to it. It’s familiar. It’s comfortable.

But you need to break out of that box so you can grow and become the person that you really want to be. Leave your comfort zone and become your best self.
