Yesterday I watched an past episode of Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday. It featured Bishop T.D. Jakes speaking about how to use our time effectively. I found myself pondering something I often think about: How much could I do that truly fulfills my purpose here on earth if I just gave up all the things I feel I “should” be doing or that I’m not good at doing?
There are so many things I do because I feel I need to do them to succeed. Jakes, however, mentions that we do so many things that we aren’t really good at and that we could have someone else do. I’ve realized this over the last year, and I’ve begun to hire others to do some of this for me. I don’t have a lot of money to spend on this. But some super and cheap places can be found to get work done for you when you need it–and the people are happy to have the work.ย And I”m happy to find myself free to do what I do best and what I feel passionate about doing.
In this way, I can pursue my passion and my purpose.
Sometimes you have to have some faith and you have to listen to the messages you get about what you should be doing. I know I could have written a lot more books if I was less busy and more effective, if I spent more time fulfilling my purpose. Recently I heard the messages–I saw God’s hand reach out to guide me in the form of encouragement from several publishing houses. I saw that it was time to actually get those books written I’d been talking about for so long and to trust that if I spent more time on my writing, the money would follow. I needed to get less busy doing other things and get effective with my gift.
I believe God put each and every one of us on this earth for a reason. We can each create change, make a positive difference in our own small (or large) way. Are you doing that? Or are you too busy?
Listen to Jakes yourself in this video. Then think about your gifts, your soul purpose. Then leave me a comment and tell me: Are you too busy to fulfill your potential? If so, how will you change to be more effective?
This was a very insightful post! I am in the process of writing a series for my blog and this is right on time. I have found myself extremely busy over the last few years and have gotten a lot of things done…for other people. In November, I decided to take 2012 off to focus on my stuff. I am a subscriber and look forward to catching up on your other posts. God bless!
Good for you, Nichole! I’m going to be focused more on my “stuff,” too. My kids are out of the house now, which makes it a bit easier. Let me know how it works out for you, and thanks for subscribing. I hope you’ll continue to comment as well.
