Hi. I’m Nina Amir. I am the Inspiration to Creation Coach. Today, what I would like to inspire you to create is the ability to not stop yourself.
What happens when you actually don’t do what you say you want to do? Or you aren’t as productive as you’d like to be? Or you don’t handle a situation as well as you’d like?
What happens is you get in your way. That’s right, you, you get in your way.
Now, I get in my way all the time, too, and it doesn’t matter that I’m a high performance coach, we all work through these issues the same way. Just some of us are more conscious of those issues and there are many things that happen during the day that stop us from doing what we say we want to do, from achieving our goals, making our dreams real, or just getting our stuff done.
So what stops you? You.
It’s happening up here in your head. You are stopping yourself with your negative thoughts, your limiting beliefs. It’s like I’m here in my house this week and it’s hot. I live in Northern California. We do not have air conditioning. I rarely wear tank tops, but it is just beastly hot in my house. Yes, I could leave and I could go to a coffee shop and I could sit there, but I’d spend half an hour going there and half an hour going back. It’s hot in the house and it’s easy enough for me to say, “It is too hot to work. I can’t think, I can’t focus, I’m just sweating, and I’m hot, and my hair is sticking to my neck.” That is an easy way for me to get out of doing what I’ve got to do.
Instead, I change my thoughts about that, and I think, “It’s hot, but that’s okay. I can deal with hot. Turn on my fan, get myself an ice-cold drink, maybe make myself a milkshake, or a blended tea…” It’s what I did yesterday, blended chai tea. “…and I’m just going to pull my hair up, turn on all the fans, move to the coolest spots in the house as I need to, but I am going to get my work done because I don’t want to waste 30 minutes going into town and 30 minutes coming back. I live in the mountains. I’m far away from everything.”
Just change the mindset, “I can do this. I can do this. I can work even though it’s hot. I can get my stuff done and afterwards I can take a cold shower.”
Anyway, that’s just one example of changing your mindset so you’re not stuck.
Now, what if you say, “I’m waiting on someone. Somebody needs to get me some information before I can do what I need to do.” Now, you’re making it an obstacle outside yourself, but it’s in your head that you have to wait for them. Right? What you want to do is tell yourself that you are waiting on them for that, but you can do something else in the meantime. You can get something else done.
Sometimes, our obstacles are as simple as, “I don’t think I’m good enough, or I don’t believe I’m worthy, or I might be rejected, or I might fail.” These are all limiting thoughts and negative beliefs and they aren’t necessarily true.
Even if they are true, why does it matter? If you fail, it’s not really failure It’s a learning experience. It’s a chance for you to pick yourself up, and improve yourself, and keep moving on.
What if you do get rejected? What if you ask that girl for a date and she says no? Well, you still don’t have a date. You didn’t have a date to begin with. You’ve lost nothing. Maybe a little bit of self esteem, but not if you tell yourself, “This was the wrong girl. There’s another girl out there.”
It’s the same for writers who are sending out query letters to magazines, and to agents, and book publishers, and they get rejection. And they say, “I’m not good enough. My work isn’t good enough. I’m a failure. I’ll never make it.” This is the wrong way to look at it. You just sent the letter to the wrong person. Wrong person. Send it to another person, another magazine, another editor, agent, whatever, and see if that isn’t the right person.
Most of our negative thoughts say our fears. We’re afraid something is going to happen in the future and that we’re focused on this negative potentiality rather than being focused on the positive one. Focus on what you want to create. Focus on the possibility that you will succeed, that you will be accepted, that you will find your mate, that you will find the right agent, that you will find the right job, that you will be able to do everything you want to do. Focus on that. Don’t focus on the fact that it may not happen. Okay?
That is it for today. I want you to take up this challenge—to become conscious of your negative thoughts and limiting beliefs and begin to focus on what you want to create. Don’t let you stop you. Instead, help yourself succeed by using this, your brain, your mind, or by using it in the way it was meant to be used—to focus on your ability to achieve your potential, to fulfill your purpose and to bring your unique gifts into the world.
