I believe our external world reflects our inner world. So, when my shower and bathtub, as well as my toilet, began to back up, I had to ask myself why my shit was up—or what shit was up (excuse my language). Of course, I share the bathroom with my husband, so whatever was sewage was choosing to flow the wrong way in our pipes was a joint creation. It required that we both stand and take a good long look in the mirror and answer that question.
It came as no surprise to me that this particular plumbing incident occurred on the very day that my husband went off for his last day of work. Our money issues were surely “up.”
Life is a Mirror
We have so many opportunities every day to see what life mirrors to us if we only pay attention. Someone once told me, for example, that our cars are a reflection of our bodies. Sure enough, when my life was speeding out of control, the brakes on my car gave out.
I’ve had periods in my life when electrical items wouldn’t work, or we had water issues. It becomes very interesting to research the meaning behind such things—or to simply ask yourself what electricity or water, for example, symbolize to you.
When your body has an issue, you can get a copy of Louise Hay’s book, Heal Your Body; in it you will discover many mind body/body connections.
Do the Inner Work Regularly
Once you have an idea of what life is mirroring to you, you work on the inner issues that are manifesting externally. Clean out the inner “shit” so it doesn’t start bubbling up in unwanted places.
I can tell you, it’s no fun to have come out of the shower and find it in your bathtub, and then to later discover it in the shower and toilet. Nor is it any fun to clean it up.
Actually, had we had our septic tank pumped—cleaned—every three years, we wouldn’t have had the backup in our bathroom. We would have handled the “internal” issues in terms of our household plumbing. In much the same way we humans need to regularly clean out our inner emotional and psychological pipes so we don’t have externally problems. We may not think it is necessary, but it is—and it’s well worth it. If we don’t, the clean up after the problem “arises” is much more difficult, messy, costly, and time consuming.
Have you had an experience of the external world reflecting your inner world? If so, leave me a comment.
