If you are like most Americans, you sit a good bit of the day. However, getting up and moving at least once per hour is the best thing you can do for your health, mind and productivity. You may think you don’t have time for a break, but you will be more creative, effective, and alert after you “get physical” and get your energy moving.
Try it. Get up and do a few yoga moves, stretches, or squats every 50 minutes. Jog a flight of stairs. Even better, go outside and walk around the block.
Getting out of the office or house and into nature as you move your body does wonders! Feeling the sun and wind on your skin and looking at the flowers and trees will inspire you and your work as well as help you generate new ideas. You’ll return to your desk or job refreshed and, therefore, more productive. Plus, you’ll be eager to act upon your inspiration.
Set an alarm on your phone or computer to remind you to move your body every hour. Try to take these mini-movement breaks for the next day or two. (Then extend the practice to 30 days.)
