In line with yesterday’s post, and inspired by two poets’ poems on the subject of yesterday’s voting, Rachel Barenblatt and James Stone Goodman, here’s my poem about yesterday’s election results.
The new president comes like rain after a long drought.
The land soaks up the needed nourishment.
The people heave a sigh of relief;
Maybe the risk of fire has been lessened.
They can hope.
They have to hope.
They stand outside,
Weeping
Joyfully,
Gratefully,
Listening to the rain fall,
The drops feeding their souls.
Thanks Rachel and Jim for inspiring me to write my first poem in a long, long time. I had thought I would write a long post today inspired by Obama’s speech, but this will suffice. I’ll write it tomorrow.
