4 Reasons You Must Strive for Sanity in an Insane World

How do you help the world be less insane? Become more sane.

For many people around the globe, the world feels like a crazy place in which to live. And it seems to get more insane every day.

We have wars, tariffs, division, shootings, information overload, social tension, economic uncertainty, and environmental anxieties. It’s easy to feel disoriented, afraid, and overwhelmed. Many people lose their center amid the noise and chaos.

When you feel stuck in the middle of the madness, what can you do? Strive to be sane.

Don’t get cray-cray. Instead, increase your level of sanity.

Be more grounded, more conscious, more clear, and more peaceful than ever before. Rise above the insanity. Be sane in an insane world.

Sanity and Insanity Defined

What is “sanity”? Sanity is defined as: the ability to think and behave in a way considered to be normal and rational.

Google says: “It means being mentally stable, functioning normally, and thinking clearly. It also refers to acting reasonably and keeping a balanced perspective, especially during stressful situations.”

Insanity is often defined as extreme foolishness or irrationality or as a severe, often permanent state of disordered mind, characterized by mental illness that hinders normal reasoning, behavior, or cognitive capacity.

I can think of at least four reasons why it’s never been more important to cultivate your sanity, and why nurturing it constitutes the most imperative act of service you can offer in an insane time in history.

Indeed, if you want to help make the world less crazy, here’s why you need to be more sane.

1. Sanity Leads to Clarity

With all the crazy news constantly coming at us from everywhere, it’s not surprising you feel confused and overwhelmed. You may wonder if you are going crazy and can no longer discern what is right or wrong, true or false, or real or fake.

When you remain calm, level-headed, rational, and reasonable, your mind becomes clearer. Then, it’s easier to avoid being mentally or emotionally hijacked and to fall into fear, panic, or anxiety. Clarity helps you review complex conditions without being triggered or falling into hysteria, hopelessness, or depression.

To accomplish this, master your attention. Consume less news and social media. Stop reacting and respond only after reflection. Participate in positive or supportive conversations. Breathe. Get out in nature. Focus on that which brings you peace and joy.

And ask yourself what truly matters to you right now; place your attention there. Check in often and determine if you are safe, right now, where you are; you probably are, so affirm that.

2. Sanity Protects Your Energy

When the collective mind is chaotic and insane, you absorb anxiety, polarity, despair, and irrationality that may not originate from you. You end up feeling the collective emotional and mental state, which depletes your energy and makes it unstable.

The more frenetic the energy of the outer world, the more you must tend your internal world. If you don’t, you’ll feel unable to muster the energy to do even necessary tasks.

The world’s insanity is like a contagion. You have to protect yourself in whatever way possible so you don’t contract the “virus.”

Don’t see this as detachment. Rather, consider it self-preservation for the sake of preserving others. It’s like putting on your own oxygen mask first, so you can help others second, as they advise on an airplane.

See this approach as creating boundaries meant to protect your energy. Only if you do what you can to keep your energy high can you help others maintain theirs.

On a grander scale, when your energy remains high and positive, you impact yourself, those around you, and the world at large. Your sane energy ripples out, creating more sanity.

Mindfulness, yoga, walking, or breath awareness can help you maintain high energy. Or simply exercising can raise your energy.

Just like you shower daily, cleanse energetically—through salt baths, grounding, or prayer. Think of this as boosting your energetic immune system and making it possible for you to bring more sane energy to others.

3. Sanity Creates the Future

History has shown that in times of upheaval, those who remain calm, clear, and rational shape the world’s next chapter. Those who are sane can hold contradictions without collapsing into cynicism or denial, and they can see possibilities, options, and solutions.

That’s what the world is starving for—humans stable enough to hold hope without naïveté, truth without despair. We need visionaries who can see a brighter future than our current reality and lead us there with courage, clarity, and confidence.

Your personal sanity is not just self-care; it’s world-care. Humanity needs you to be sane because you can’t help fix, heal, or solve anything when you are feeling or acting crazy.

We are all creators. If we focus on insanity, we create more of it. And if we become insane, we experience insanity. Instead, focus on creating sanity. Be someone sane, and you will create that experience—you will see the world as sane.

To create a better future, consciously contribute calm rather than confusion to your life and the lives of others. Avoid creating chaos by getting triggered or reacting habitually to situations. Visualize a sane world—and hold that vision daily. As Mahatma Gandhi is often quoted as saying, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

And like Gandhi, be peace. Embody this state so you send this energy into the world around you, and your presence reminds others that peace is possible even here, even now.

Peace leads to a greater sense of sanity.

4. Sanity Increases Spiritual Awareness

Sometimes people experience a spiritual emergence. They connect with something greater than themselves and are deemed “crazy” because healthcare professionals, family, and friends don’t understand the experience of being deeply connected to the spiritual side of life. But a spiritual perspective is like having 20-20 vision when everyone else has vision impairment.

We are spiritual beings having a human experience. When we allow ourselves to experience the spiritual side, everything makes more sense. We realize that the world’s crazy nature is part of mankind’s evolution.

Spiritual truths say that out of chaos comes order. Out of insanity comes sanity. Out of disease comes ease. Out of conflict comes peace. A spiritual perspective helps you know this…and see it in action.

Spirituality allows you to align with deeper truth and an awareness that everything is always happening in divine timing for the highest good of all. From a spiritual perspective, you can see beyond the mundane aspects of human existence and perceive the sacred in everything.

Spiritual traditions also point to a similar truth: when you remember who you are beyond the mind, you naturally return to sanity. Meditation, prayer, contemplation, or even silent walks in nature help you remember that you are a spiritual being and reconnect you to the still small voice of your soul, the witnessing presence that is your spiritual nature.

Your spiritual awareness doesn’t deny the world’s pain. It roots you in a larger perspective, where chaos is part of the growth process. From that view, insanity is just humans forgetting their true nature; sanity is remembering it.

Get quiet; ask questions and listen for the answers. Follow your intuition and act on inspiration. Spend time in meditation, prayer, and silence. Try automatic or guided writing or even Tarot card readings. All of these activities connect you to your spiritual side and help you see the world differently.

Becoming the Calm in the Chaos

The world’s craziness calls you to awaken, become conscious, and be sane.

The world and all of humanity provide a mirror. Whatever outer challenges you see are reflections of inner ones you may or may not be aware of. The world’s insane state reflects insanity within you; its sane state reflects sanity within. This mirroring effect pushes you toward greater self-awareness and growth. It helps you see where you need to heal your insane places so you can be more sane.

Choose sanity. That choice—made by enough of us—changes everything.

Getting sane means showing up from a higher level of coherence, awareness, and understanding. It means becoming the calm center that can hold the storm.

In the end, the way to create a saner world comes from your inner state. It begins with one person deciding to be sane when everyone and everything else seems insane.
