You’ve likely heard it said that your body is a temple. It houses your soul, the part of you created in the image of God. In addition, it allows you to live the life you desire. By this I don’t just mean the physical life; I also mean the mental life. That’s because that temple also contains your brain.
I was made all the more aware of this today as I lay on a massage table getting a Releasology treatment. I thought I was caring for my temple, by which I mean my body. But I was told that the spinal cord has a continuous connection to the brain. Any thing that hinders the spinal cord, such as a subluxation or muscles that are too tight, causes it to work at a lesser capacity. That means you will have physical issues and your mind will experience diminished capacity as well.
If your mind doesn’t function well, nothing in your life functions as well as you might like. You brain is the computer that runs everything.
Now there’s something to think about…
Are You Caring for Your Mind?
While I’m a big advocate of going to the chiropractor (I have a bad back), I hadn’t really considered all the ramifications of my tight muscles—caused by many hours at my desk. And I don’t often go for a massage.
Recently, I was at a weekend seminar where several speakers hammered home the the affects of what we eat on our brain function. Sugar, alcohol, and caffeine—among other things—make it hard for our brains to function well. In some cases, they even destroy brain cells.
Stimulate Your Brain
These facts make me consider how to take better care of my mind. Stimulating my brain, and helping it function at it’s highest capacity, have a lot to do with how I care for my temple—my body. Feeding it new and stimulating information is great, but I also must give it the necessarily nutrition and care to do the heavy lifting I require of it daily—which is greater than any weights I ask my body to lift for sure!
That means I have to pay attention to what I eat. And I have to exercise more, and I have to do whatever is necessary to help my body stay healthy in all ways. If my muscles are tight, I need to have them massaged or released. If I can’t eat as healthy a diet as I need to or would like, I must supplement.
I admit it; I haven’t always made time for self-care. In the past two years, I’ve let exercise fall by the wayside. Some of my eating habits have also declined. I’ve been changing all of that!
It’s easy to get lazy…or to just say you are too busy or too tired. I know. I understand. But don’t you want to be a high performer? Don’t you want to fulfill your potential and succeed in every area of your life? If so, join me. I’m taking better care of the hard drive that makes it all happen in my life—my brain. How about you?
What do you plan to do differently after reading this post to better care for your brain?

the FB AND linked in print email control pad is so annoying to read and forces you to look at the bottom of the screen. it’ has a very uncomfortable reading feel to it. I read a few lines and immediately scrolled to the bottom to let you know. Would be best at the bottom of the screen Horizontally.
