The Never-Ending Healing Process

heal yourself

I’ve been healing from a bicycle accident for a month now. It feels like a never-ending process. I still have aches and pains, and my face has not yet healed from being stitched up. And then there’s the psychic, or emotional, healing that needs to take place.

Emotional healing, too, can feel like a never-ending process.

Occasionally, you have to heal from events in your past—but you have to do it in the present. Or your current injuries cause you to heal form both the present and the past at the same time.

Our current wounds can lead us to heal past wounds. And sometimes healing past injuries help us heal more-recent ones as well.

As you peel away the layers of the things that happen to you in life—a bit like peeling the layers of an onion—you allow yourself to feel the pain. As you strip away another layer, you may cry, yell, or bang your fists into a pillow. And you understand a bit more about yourself, what caused the pain in the first place and why.

This type of perpetual healing process makes you more aware of your current situation and what needs healing. And that healing might be an old wound that underlies the new one. Again, you strip away the layers, and you allow yourself to feel, to understand, and to heal.

In the process, sometimes—often—you experience a revelation. You reach a new level of understanding.

As you gain clarity, you also find yourself with more energy. After all, the old baggage you’ve been carrying around with you weighs you down. You don’t know you have been carrying it until you become more conscious, more aware. When you realize you are carrying a heavy load, you can put it down and leave it behind. That means you have more energy for other things.

Being you own healer means looking into the dark, festering places of your life, mind, and emotions—your psyche—and cleaning them out. You have to find a prescription that causes transformation.

Every day is another day for healing, finding courage, clarity, and energy. As I went to a doctor for a new problem that cropped up due to my bicycle accident, a new emotional wound arose as well. It presented me with an opportunity for healing—on more than one level.

Are you aware of the opportunities to courageously heal on many levels? When you do so, can you feel how the healing process brings you new clarity and energy? Tell me about your experiences in a comment below.
