In this video, comedic actor Jim Carrey talks about how you manifest your full potential. He suggests asking the universe for what you want and having faith that it will become manifest. Additionally, he talks about the need to live in love, not fear, and to allow your true self to shine through.
I’ve always loved Jim’s story. He grew up in a family so poor that for a time they lived in their Volkswagen van on a relative’s lawn. Despite this experience, Jim believed in his future—a future that looked different than his parent’s lives.
Jim knew he had a calling. At the age of just 10 years old: He would become an actor. He even mailed his resume to The Carol Burnett Show.
His faith and optimism continued into adulthood. Jim tells a story about a night in 1990 when he was a broke, struggling young comic trying to make his way in Los Angeles. He drove his old beat-up Toyota to the top of a hill. While sitting there, looking down over the city and dreaming of his future, he wrote himself a check for $10 million. He added these words in the notation line: :for acting services rendered.” He then dated it “Thanksgiving 1995,” and stuck the check in his wallet.
By 1995, Jim had appeared in Ace Ventura, Pet Detective, The Mask, and Liar, Liar. His per film fee at that point had escalated to $20 million.
Jim Carrey speaks from his experience. He asked the universe for what he desired, had faith it would show up, chose love over fear, and showed up as the unique individual that he is… And Jim received all that he envisioned and more.
Have you ever asked the universe for what you want? Has it shown up? If you did that today, would you have the faith that it would show up? Tell me in a comment below.
