It’s wonderful to have ideas, especially ones that inspire you and that line up with your purpose and your passion—and your business. But what if you don’t have ideas?
A lack of ideas typically means you don’t feel inspired. You aren’t allowing your mind to play in areas that interest you.
To generate ideas, allow your mind to dwell on topics you love, that you feel compelled to pursue, or that jazz you. Ideas will begin to flow.
Or make a change. Go outside. Take a trip. Clean your space. Give things away. Hang out with new people. Learn something. Try something.
Discover or rediscover your interests and passions. Explore why you are here and what you want to do with your life.
Find the Right Ideas
Some people have the opposite problem. They possess an abundance of ideas. If your mind constantly generates new ideas, you might feel overwhelmed and unable to decide which one to pursue or confused about how to bring all of them into the world at once.
Believe me, I know this all too well. I often allow my ideas to pull me in many directions, a habit that results in unfinished projects, stress and burn out.
These days I try to focus on a few ideas—bringing them into the world in a more focused manner. This better serves me and my readers, clients and customers.
If I need to choose an idea to work on, this is the process I use:
- List the ideas.
- Rate the ideas by how passionate I feel about each one.
- Rate the ideas by how well they line up with my purpose, mission or goals.
- Prioritize the ideas based on my ratings.
- Take action (create a to-do list or action plan).
The right ideas are those that inspire me. These combine my purpose and my passion. As I create them, they help me fulfill my potential.
