We know the language of the soul at birth. Then, most of us forget it—or think we have. Some people remember their personal soul language from childhood or early adulthood and never forget it. Others spend their entire lives trying to communicate with their spiritual nature, never realizing that they’ve always known the language of the soul.
In my mid-20s, I began my path of spiritual seeking. Among other things, I wanted to learn how to tap into spiritual guidance, including intuition. I wanted to know my spirit guides, receive messages from my ancestors, and have access to Source.
I learned how to read Tarot cards intuitively—not based on their meaning. I offer readings, but I never say I am psychic…only intuitive. Yet, I still sometimes wonder if I’m truly receiving messages. (My clients say I’m accurate, so…I must be.)
I do believe I get answers from my soul or Higher Self when I ask. They sound like me, as I believe they should. No booming voice from outside myself, but the Still Small Voice inside—the sound of my soul speaking to me. I hear this voice sometimes, offering bits of guidance that are easy to ignore. “Write the email now.” “Call your friend.” “Stop working.” If I pay attention—and take action, usually good…even surprising…things happen.
I often still ignore the voice. Or I lack the trust to take action on the messages I notice.
Yet, I know for certain how the soul speaks to me. I have learned its language. And I often teach others to decipher their soul messages.
3 Ways the Soul Speaks to You
I believe the language of the soul is comprised of four elements:
- intuition
- inspiration
- passion
Most people are able to decipher such messages. You can, too, especially if you make the decision and effort to become aware of them.
Listening…and hearing…your soul speak to you takes practice for most of us. After all, we haven’t done it for a long time. But once we remember that we’ve known the language of the soul all along, it gets immensely easier.
Your Soul has Always Spoken to You
You were born into a physical body, but you are a spiritual being. At your core, you are your soul.
It makes sense, therefore, that as a baby, your soul spoke to you. In fact, it spoke to you en utero. As you became programmed or indoctrinated by your parents, teachers, and environment, and learned from your human experiences, it’s likely you began to focus more on human interactions than on spiritual ones.

And that makes sense. You received approval and love for listening to other humans and doing the things they found acceptable and desirable.
In many families and societies, speaking to an invisible “friend” is not rewarded. At a certain point, we are told to find “real” friends—the human type. As a result, we stop listening to the Still Small Voice within or following its guidance.
Now, it’s time to seek out your soul and befriend it again. It’s time to ask for its guidance, and trust it…take action upon it.
The more you do that—ask, trust, act—the more often your soul will communicate with you.
Listen to Intuition
Everyone is intuitive. How could you be the exception when you are a spiritual being having a human experience? Your soul is always within you and accessible. And one aspect of its language comes in the form of intuition.
To learn the language of the soul, pay attention to intuitive nudges. This could look like the hair standing up on your neck or arms. Or it could be a recurring thought to take a specific action—especially one that feels a little uncomfortable or like a stretch. Intuition could even be a booming voice that tells you to get out of a highway lane, and, if you listen—which means act, you find yourself avoiding an accident.
Some say people who are psychic have simply exercised or practiced their intuition. They have taught themselves to tune into their soul speaking to them. You can hone that skill as well.
Act on Inspiration
Inspiration is another way the soul speaks to you. When you feel inspired, your spiritual nature is guiding you to take specific action—to act on your inspiration.
Consider how often something inspires you. That feeling makes you want to do something. If you take action, you may discover that you get new results, feel happier and more fulfilled, or are presented with an opportunity.
If you don’t act on inspiration, you ignore the soul guiding you toward something that is for your highest good. You reject its advice, and you’ll never know what wonderful experience you might have had if you had chosen to trust the counsel enough to act.
Pursue Your Passion
What do you talk about incessantly? What do you pay attention to as often as possible? What would you rather do than anything else? If you could wave a magic wand and have the ability to pursue a dream, what would it be?
That’s passion. And when you feel passionate about something, your soul is saying, “Yes! That’s something that, if pursued, is for your highest good.”
Make a list of the things you love, the things that make your heart sing and float your boat. These are your passions.
Then, trust your soul. Pursue your passions.
Live a Soul-Aligned Life
When you learn…or relearn…the language of the soul and communicate regularly with your spiritual nature, the quality of your life changes. You live in alignment with your soul and its guidance.
As you remember who you are—a spiritual being having a human experience (not the other way around)—and recall how to communicate with your soul, you will begin to trust your soul’s guidance and act on it. That’s when everything changes…for the better. You create a soul-aligned life.
This is how you are meant to live…in communication and partnership with your soul.
